How SMS credits work in Brave Tools
Understand how SMS credits are earned, purchased, used, and expired in Brave Tools.
What are SMS credits?
SMS credits are the currency used to send text messages through Brave Tools. Each SMS message costs one or more credits depending on the message length and destination country.
How do I get credits?
There are three ways to get SMS credits:
1. Monthly free credits
- Standard plan — 10 free credits per month
- Professional plan — 20 free credits per month
- Free and Trial plans — No SMS credits included
Monthly credits are added on the first of each month and expire at month end. Unused credits do not roll over.
2. Purchased credits
Buy additional credit packs from the SMS Campaigns page. Purchased credits are valid for 30 days.
3. Admin-granted credits
Your administrator may grant bonus credits with a custom expiration date.
How are credits consumed?
Credits are deducted using FIFO (First In, First Out):
- Credits from the oldest batch are used first
- If a batch runs out, the next batch is used automatically
- Expired batches are skipped
Each SMS uses one credit per 160-character segment (70 for Unicode/emoji). Longer messages may use 2-3 credits per recipient.
How do credits expire?
- Free monthly credits — expire at the end of the calendar month
- Purchased credits — expire 30 days after purchase
- Admin-granted credits — custom expiration
Expired credits are zeroed out automatically. An entry appears in your dashboard activity feed.
Where can I check my balance?
- Dashboard — Account Pulse shows SMS credits
- SMS Campaigns page — credit balance in header
- Account and Billing — detailed credit info
What if I run out?
The cost preview step warns you if credits are insufficient. Purchase more before sending.
