How to cancel a scheduled SMS campaign

Stop a scheduled or in-flight SMS campaign and get a clear picture of what was already sent.

When you can cancel

The Cancel button is available throughout, from when the campaign starts preparing until the very last SMS is sent. The earlier you cancel, the more recipients you stop.

  • During Preparing: nothing has been sent yet, cancellation is total
  • During the Scheduled cool-down, nothing has been sent yet; cancellation is total
  • During Sending: some SMS may already be on their way to recipients, and the rest are stopped

How to cancel

  1. Open SMS Campaigns in the sidebar
  2. Find the campaign in the list
  3. Click Cancel on the campaign row, or open the campaign and click Cancel from the detail view
  4. Read the confirmation modal carefully (more on this below)
  5. Click Confirm cancel

Understanding the confirmation modal

If you cancel during the cool-down, the modal is short and reassuring. It tells you that no SMS were sent and that any reserved credits will be refunded.

If you cancel mid-flight, the modal shows three numbers:

  • Already sent: SMS that has left for 46elks. These cannot be recalled. The recipient will receive them
  • In flight: SMS that we have started processing, but not yet confirmed with 46elks. Most of these still get delivered
  • Will be stopped: SMS is still in our queue that has not been touched yet. These are guaranteed to never go out

Read the numbers and decide. The modal copy is intentionally direct, "is on its way" means it cannot be stopped, "will be stopped" is a hard guarantee.

What happens after I confirm cancel?

  • The campaign status flips to Cancelled
  • Credits for messages that were not sent are refunded to your balance
  • The campaign stays in your list with a full history of what was sent and what was skipped
  • Recipients who never received an SMS are not affected

I cancelled by accident, can I undo?

No. Cancel is final. To resume sending you would need to create a new campaign. This is intentional, undo on a destructive action would defeat the safety the cancel button is there to provide.

Cancelling workflow SMS

The cancel button on a workflow virtual campaign stops queued enrollments that have not been processed yet. Workflow instant sends are processed immediately and cannot be cancelled, by design (they are usually OTPs or alerts that need to go out the second they are triggered).
