What is the SMS cool-down period?

The 15-minute window between scheduling a campaign and the first SMS leaving the building.

What the cool-down is for

Sending SMS is a one-way door. Once a message is on its way to 46elks, it cannot be recalled. The cool-down gives you a buffer between clicking Send and the first SMS actually going out, so you can catch a typo, the wrong list, or simply change your mind.

Every campaign that you send from Brave Tools waits at least 15 minutes after the preparation step finishes before sending starts.

How it works

  1. You finish the campaign wizard and click Send
  2. Brave Tools fetches your contact list, removes opt-outs and invalid numbers, and materializes the queue. This is the Preparing phase
  3. When prep finishes, the campaign moves to Scheduled with a countdown of at least 15 minutes
  4. The campaign card shows a clock counting down. You can click Cancel at any point during this window
  5. When the countdown hits zero, sending starts automatically

Can I schedule for later than 15 minutes?

Yes. If you pick a future send time in the wizard, the campaign waits until that time. The 15-minute floor is a minimum, never a maximum. If you ask for, say, three hours from now, the cool-down is three hours.

Can I skip the cool-down?

For regular campaigns, no. The 15-minute floor is non-negotiable on the platform side, exactly because it has saved customers from accidental sends more than once.

For workflow SMS actions, the rules are different:

  • Send SMS (queued) uses the same 15-minute cool-down
  • Send SMS (instant) bypasses the cool-down. Use this for OTPs, password resets, two-factor codes
  • Send alert SMS to fixed number bypasses the cool-down. Use for internal alerts and on-call notifications

What if I need to send urgently?
